Who doesn't? Devon, apparently, is one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. Every body wants to come to the South West - so I am really lucky to be able to call it home.
From a work point of view North Devon is absolutely brilliant. My daily commute is all of five minutes through open countryside. It used to be from the kitchen to the spare room but, now I have an office, it's a bit longer. I can step outside and see fields and trees. Inspiring stuff. And it really does make for better work. But if I need something on the 'cultural' side then Bristol, Bath, Exeter and Plymouth are just down the road. What really makes it for me, however, are the people I work with. Most of them have made a real effort to be living and working here too, which means they appreciate it as much as I do.
Away from the office, Devon is heaven. It's a lifestyle thing. There are pubs galore, restaurants serving yummy nosh and the walking is to die for. And if I ever feel the need for a bit of retail therapy it's just a hop, skip and a jump away. Shoes! Scrumptious.
A big part of living here is the beach. Even if I don't see it from one day to the next it's nice to know it's there and that I can take off to go surfing, swimming or rock pooling any time I like. It's also the reason why I am a director of The Beach Clean Network, a project to encourage beach cleaning all over the UK. It's a very simple idea that aims to put volunteers in touch with beach clean organisers. There's nothing like it anywhere so it's exciting to be a part of something new.
